If you’re looking at getting a set of new teeth here at the Prestige Dental Implant Centers at Colorado Springs or Pueblo, you’re probably going to have a couple of questions! To satiate your curiosity, calm your nerves and help you understand what is involved in getting a new, beautiful smile, here is a FAQ Guide on All on 4 Dental Implants.
FAQ: What is the All on 4?
Answer: The All on 4 is a dental implant procedure to give patients who have lost most or all of their original adult teeth, or who suffer with a failing dentition, a brand new set of fixed, non-removable teeth. This procedure was pioneered by European implantologist Dr. Paulo Malo in the early 1990’s and has since gone on to provide comprehensive teeth replacement solutions to tens of thousands of Americans and countless more worldwide.
FAQ: How does the All on 4 work?
Answer: The “All on 4” entails the placement of four dental implants in the jaw requiring teeth (upper and/or lower). A customized dental prosthesis, which looks like a complete set of teeth, is then permanently attached to these dental implants, giving patients new teeth that are virtually indistinguishable in function and appearance from healthy natural pearly whites.
FAQ: What is the procedure involved in getting new teeth?
Answer:Getting new teeth with the All on 4 is typically a simple and straightforward process. You will come in to the Prestige Dental Implant Center for a complimentary consultation with one of our experienced implant dentists, Dr. Sterling Rogers or Dr. Michael Bull. Once your unique case has been thoroughly assessed and X-rays taken and if you are determined a candidate for the All on 4, which is almost always the case, a date for treatment will be set.
The procedure itself consists of three phases. First, you will be gently sedated and/or anesthetized and all your remaining failing and decayed teeth painlessly extracted. Dr. Rogers or Dr. Bull will then begin the surgical placement of your dental implants: two in the anterior (front) part of the jaw and two in the posterior (back) part of the jaw. This is all performed under anesthetic, so you need not worry about experiencing any pain or discomfort. In fact, you’ll “wake-up” with everything already completed!
Once the dental implants have been placed and your gums sutured up, our dentist will attach a temporary dental bridge (complete set of artificial teeth) to the top of the implants. This bridge will have been previously fabricated from molds of your jaw and so is customized to sit comfortably in your mouth. This bridge will enable you to eat and smile comfortably and with confidence until the implants have integrated with your jaw. Once healing is complete, your temporary bridge will be removed and replaced with a stronger, permanent one during a follow-up appointment.
You will typically be required to come back to our offices for two to three follow-up appointments in the weeks/months following your surgery. This is to ensure that you are healing successfully and that you are getting the most (functionally and aesthetically) out of your new, beautiful teeth. These follow-up consultations will be included in the overall quotation for the All on 4 procedure.
FAQ: Who is a good candidate for All on 4 dental implants?
Answer: One of the many benefits of the All on 4 is that almost everyone is a candidate! Previously, traditional dental implant protocols were only able to make candidates out of patients who presented with sufficient jawbone volume. Since tooth loss causes the jaw to atrophy and waste away, it was frequently the case that patients would require bone grafting before they could receive dental implants. The All on 4 bypasses the need for this additional, costly and painful procedure via the precise and strategic placement of dental implants, which are then used to provide fixed support for a new set of teeth. Because of this and because of the advanced state of dental surgery and diagnostic equipment, nearly 100% of patients can be considered a candidate for All on 4 dental implants.
A good candidate would be someone who hasn’t been without teeth for too many years and so presents with a healthy volume of bone in the jaw. Certain medical conditions and illnesses may compromise a patient’s candidacy. Dr. Sterling Rogers and Dr. Michael Bull will discuss this in full with you should this be a potential problem.
FAQ: Why are All on 4 dental implants the preferred choice of Silver Spring dentists?
Answer: The All on 4 offers a handsome suite of benefits over traditional dental implant protocols and teeth replacement technologies, such as removable dentures. In terms of living with new teeth and the quality of life patients can expect to enjoy, there simply is no better alternative. Dental implants offer patients a fixed solution to missing teeth and one that is as close to having natural teeth as a patient can get. They’re comfortable, look natural, feel like regular teeth and can be used to eat all your favorite foods. Implants also support the long-term health of the jaw bone, preventing premature aging and the deterioration of bite function.
FAQ: What benefits can I expect from my new teeth?
Answer: If you’ve ditched the dentures in favor of All on 4 dental implant supported teeth, here are the amazing benefits and advantages you can look forward to:
Teeth that are fixed and stable in the mouth. They won’t move around when eating and speaking and they cannot accidentally fall out!
Teeth that feel comfortable and natural. The All on 4 bridge supported by your implants isn’t bulky and won’t rub against and irritate the soft tissues in your mouth like dentures tend to. Problems such as a triggered gag reflex, oral sores and gum inflammation should become a thing of the past!
Teeth that you can eat most foods with. The use of dental implants to stabilize the bridge in your mouth enables patients to manage a varied diet full of their favorite foods, from corn on the cob to juicy steak. Never again will your replacement teeth dictate what you choose from the menu!
Teeth that don’t require periodic refitting.Dentures initially require refitting and replacement every few years, but more frequently the longer a patient wears them for. This comes down to the changing shape of the jawbone as atrophy claims more and more healthy bone volume. Since dental implants keep bone tissue healthy, you won’t need to have your new teeth refitted or replaced, saving you the discomfort of ill-fitting teeth and the expense of replacing them!
Teeth you can taste your food with!Dentures rely on their bulk to remain stabilized in the mouth. Because of this, they can cover the palate, impeding your ability to taste your food properly and sense different temperatures and textures. The All on 4 bridge is much slimmer in construction, enabling patients to fully experience and enjoy their food.
Teeth that don’t come with repeat expenses.Forget the need to pop down to your local pharmacy every week for anesthetic ointments, adhesive strips, cleaning agents and soaking solution for your dentures. Your new All on 4 teeth function and are cared for just like regular teeth, negating the need for all these additional repeat expenses. This saves patients thousands of dollars in the long run.
Teeth that can last you a lifetime. If you maintain a good home oral hygiene routine and go for regularly scheduled appointments with your dentist, there’s no reason your new teeth cannot last you a lifetime! This makes All on 4 dental implants the most cost effective teeth replacement solutions available.
FAQ: Does it hurt to get new implant teeth placed?
Answer: Here at the Prestige Dental Implant Center, we make it a priority to keep patients completely pain, discomfort and anxiety-free. As such, we offer sedation dentistry, which, depending upon the unique case, can be administered accordingly to keep patients calm, happy and comfortable. It is very normal for patients to experience some localized discomfort and sensitivity after having their new teeth placed – this is just the nature of surgery. However, we will send you home with some prescription painkillers, which can be taken to keep you comfortable. Most patients only take their painkillers for one or two days after the procedure and report feeling totally fine after.
